...replacement after reporting it lost? I am concerned that anyone with most of the number (say, the first 12 digits) will still be able to carry out fraud online.

Many thanks!

To use a credit or debit card to shop on line you need all the long number on the front plus the security number on the back. So really one your card is been stopped, it doesn't matter as it can't be used to predict the next card you receive. You will find that the first 4-8 digits are the same as they denote the card type and the card provider but nothing more.

It won't really matter, once reported you cease to have responsibility for it's use

Most of it changes. However it does vary from company to company!! But there is no way you can link the old card and new one, it will be impossible.

Once you report it lost it changes completely, nobody is going to get near it, don't worry.

A credit card number is 16 digits long, consisting of a 6 digit BIN (Bank Identification Number) and a 10 digit account number (the last digit of which is a 'modulus' or check-digit.

The first 6 digits will be the same, the rest will change.

Hope that helps.
