I seem to remember when I signed my original student loan agreement back in 1995 that there was a clause along the lines of "if you don't start making repayments before you are 55 years old, then your debt is cancelled".

I have so far successfully managed to avoid repaying anything for 10 years since the end of my degree course...can anybody give me more info on when I can finally stop going through the deferment charade every year? I am never going to earn over the minimum limit for repayments to start, so it's not as if I'm breaking any contracts or rules.
Dear Madam (PC),

I left the country years ago, and if you think I would subject my children to the mess which passes for an education system in the UK, then you would be quite wrong.

The student loan was made on the assumption that a university education would allow me to get a job earning enough money to repay it. That has not proved to be the case.

Thank you for taking the time to rant, but your contribution is not an answer, let alone a useful one.

Yours

BOOBOO.

Leave the country. With an attitude like this, we don't need you. A loan was made to you by the British tax payer on the understanding that it would be paid back when this could be done without leaving you starving. It isn't a 'deferment charade', it is intended to check to see if you are yet able to start paying back what you owe.

Oh and don't bring your children back here to be educated at our expense.

I do seem to remember the same thing. I wonder if anybody who actually works for the SLC has been there long enough to be able to answer the question correctly?
